E-commerce has never been as exciting as it is today. The speed and ease of the online shopping experience (in most cases) makes the experience seamless and almost imperceptible. Buying online is not an issue anymore.

Surfers have gotten used to the good and as a result they have quite a few demands. Any experience that does not flow, adds a sense of trust, fast and easy - leads to a search for other service providers.

As business owners and as advertisers of those businesses, we must understand our customer's journey, anticipate their expected challenges and solve them. To be on the pulse, so that we can be their go-to for the service they want.

So what happens to our customers (and to us as online consumers)?

Our customers have become more curious, more demanding and impatient.

People ask more questions - about the product, about the manufacturer, about the shipping conditions, about the return conditions. People do research, read reviews, compare, consult, go in, go out and come back.

People expect more - that the product will come in several colors, that the garment will come in all sizes, that the products will be in stock, that the delivery will be fast, that the product will be the same as what was shown on the website.

People want everything and immediately - the site must load quickly, it must be perfectly adapted to mobile so that the purchase can be made at any time and place, that customer service will be available 24/7.

People expect a safe and reliable experience, therefore, our ecommerce pages must be polished and provide a flawless experience.

Transparency and reliability - clear prices, no extras, no tricks and no tricks.

Shopping really not only from the desktop

The shopping experience is becoming more and more omni-channel. The customer journey to purchase crosses platforms and media types. The video ad on the social network that he encounters on his mobile leads him to Google the brand name, from there he goes to watch a review on YouTube, back to Google to check cheaper prices at competitors, sends a link to a friend on WhatsApp, jumps to the physical store branch to measure and touch and finally, makes a purchase from the tablet. He may still return to the desktop to leave a review himself.

So it's true, not every product requires such a long process and not every customer will experience all the steps. But, as advertisers, we need to be prepared for every state of mind of the customer and be knowledgeable about every possible digital platform.

Machine Learning

One of the hottest buzzwords of recent years, finds its way to our virtual shopping. We expect to receive deals and discounts according to the products we have purchased in the past, we want the system to recognize us and above all we want to do as little as possible. We don't want to make an effort, we want everything to work smoothly and quickly. More and more brands, especially the biggest ones, are starting to implement advanced technologies on their websites, making the experience tailor-made and thus gaining a competitive advantage.

So what do you need to make sure when you have an e-commerce website?

  • Understand that there are no shortcuts. Your site must be POLISHED!

  • that the site is optimized for all platforms - desktop, mobile and tablet (on their various types)

  • which is fast. Your surfers don't want to wait. If there are faster than you, that's where they will go.

  • User experience - the size or color filter is inconvenient? Does the popup hide the cart? Make sure you do user research and their experience on the site is one of flow and not frustration.

  • Analytics!!! Make sure all the relevant pixels, conversion codes and embeds are on the site so you can track, see what works and optimize like a pro.

  • Use a service that allows you to create heat maps while recording the behavior of surfers. You will be able to see everything your surfers click, what attracts their attention, how they scroll the text and what they tend to linger on.
